Today we showed ma’am our presentation which was a collection of all the presentations we’ve showed so far as well as a slide which had the issues related to out topic. The issue was that residential people knew that they had to segregate waste but didn’t do it and commercial people didn’t know about waste segregation and hence would just dispose/burn it.
The solutions that we came up with were:
- Spinning of Plastic: Instead of throwing away plastic, a machine could be installed which would flatten the plastic, remove the handles and then cut it into narrow strips which would be spun into balls of yarns. This can be then reused to make craft, home decor and a number of plastic woven goods.
- Making compost at home: Installing a machine that segregates and shreds organic waste. The shredded waste would be dumped into a tank that will-
- include air circulation mechanism along with heat generator
- maintain the temperature requirement to make compost
- make compost within 24 hours
- Residential people do not segregate waste even on knowing about it, so the people to collect garbage can simply deny the collection of mixed waste.
Ma’am gave us a suggestion to get inspired from Indore, the cleanest city. Ma’am told us that the problem is in the whole system and to either think of solutions that would correct each stake holder or one solution as a whole to change the system.
