Week 2 (Int Sem)

Today Ma’am talked about a famous Journalist, Italo Calvino. Italo Calvino (October 15, 1923 – September 19, 1985) was a renowned Italian fiction writer and one of the leading figures in 20th-century post-modern writing. After beginning his writing career as a politically-motivated realist, Calvino would go on to produce short yet elaborate novels that serve as investigations of reading, writing, and thinking itself.

Ma’am paired us in groups and told us to create a timeline of who Italo Calvino was and write it down on a newsprint paper. Each group was assigned different parts if the timeline, one group had to write down about the ideologies of Italo Calvino, we had to write the writing style of Italo Calvino. Our group started doing a lot of research related to the writing style of Calvino, we wrote down all the important points about his style and many different aspects that influenced him to write.

This page talks about how his early life had an influence on him. He was caught up in Italy’s tumultuous politics. immersion in wartime politics had a significant impact on Calvino’s early ideas about writing and narrative. He would later claim that hearing fellow Resistance fighters recount their adventures awakened his understanding of storytelling. And the Italian Resistance also inspired his first novel, “The Path to the Nest of Spiders” (1957). It also describes his first book and how his writing style started evolving and ends on his final work, Invisible Cities(1974).
