Week 11 (Drawing)


Today we had to submit our thumbnails and many people weren’t present last time so they started telling about their zines concepts and sir told us that we have an hour to complete all our thumbnails and have a storyboard. So we made a few more thumbnails for our zines and thought of a few storyboard ideas.

After the break sir started talking about Character Design and how we should come up with a character design. First we need to think of a concept for the character and the come up with an idea for the character and then the character should be having some motivation to do things and finally the character should have a back story which would define himself. Taking all of these into consideration, we should start thinking of visualisations like age, gender, species, traits, qualities snd purpose. My zine is based on retro gaming, so my character would be a 14 year old kid who goes to the arcade and keeps on gaming so he would have specs as he is on the screen for a long time, he would be thin as he had to walk up to the arcade which is a little far from home and play the games, he would be lean as his spine is bending while he plays games. After thinking of our character, we should start making concept sketches and choose the suitable sketch and then redefine it and also make some variations. After redefining the sketch, we should start rendering it with pencils and later on use water colours or paints and then use a pen and finally make the character digitally.

I showed my thumbnails to sir and asked him which character I should design for now and he told me to draw Mario in 3 different angles.
