Drawing

WEEK 1

Saw Loving Vincent by Vincent Van Gogh which tells us about his life and his unusual death through oil painted animations.Discussed about the different kind of strokes used in the movie to depict motion as well as stillness.

We were divided into groups of four and each group was given a topic which they had to draw using charcoal. The teacher helped us in drawing with charcoal by explaining different ways of drawing as well as shading with it which helped us. Using all the information and techniques given to us by the teacher we drew an owl using charcoal.

WEEK 2

We learned about human figures and drew anything visible to us. Learnt about gesture sketches and gesture drawing. Gesture sketches are the sketches made using minimum light pencil strokes while gesture drawing is an outline of the human figure during any action/pose.

We were given a challenge in which we had to draw a student posing in minimum strokes. Later we had to draw gestures of everything happening in the class. We learnt so much about the human anatomy which helped us later in gesture drawings.

Sir told us to go out and look at people and draw 20 different gesture sketches.

WEEK 3

We learnt about shading and its types.

  1. Hatching: It is a technique in which closely spaced parallel lines are used to show a shading effect.
  2. Cross Hatching: Layers of hatching applied at different angles to create different textures and darker tones. At its simplest, a layer of linear hatching is laid over another layer at a 90 degree angle, to which further diagonal layers may be added.
  3. Stippling: It is a creation of pattern simulating varying shading using small dots only.
  4. Scriblling: A technique for shading using overlapping circular movements of a pencil. Pressure and density of scribbles are used to control the value of the shading.
  5. Scumbling: A technique in which we have to apply the smallest circular motion we can muster very, very lightly, slightly overlapping here and there.

We had to click 10 pictures of day and night of the same place and now after knowing all these shading techniques we had to draw gesture drawings of some of these pictures and use different types of shading to fill the picture.

WEEK 4

We learnt about linear drawing. Linear Drawing is used for static/dynamic imprinting and also used in imprinting.
