Assignment 2

We had to choose any object and do a detailed study about it.

Object: Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza is a defining symbol of Egypt and the last of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. It is located on the Giza plateau near the modern city of Cairo and was built over a twenty-year period during the reign of the king Khufu.

Although many theories persist as to the purpose of the pyramid, the most widely accepted understanding is that it was constructed as a tomb for the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Khufu.

The materials used in the making of the Pyramid of Giza are:

  • The Tura limestone used for the casing
  • Granite stones in the pyramid, found in the King’s chamber
  • At completion, the Great Pyramid was surfaced with white Casing stones—slant-faced, but flat-topped, blocks of highly polished white limestone
