We read a book called Metmorphosis by Franz Kafka. The book is about a guy named Gregor who woke up as a bug one day, his body structure changed completely making it difficult for him to get out of his bed. He was never late for work in the past 15 years but being late today made his family worried about him and hence they tried to enter his room but luckily he locks his door whenever he sleeps at night. Him being late worried his manager also and hence he came to his house to check up on him, he asked him to open the door but Gregor refused. Later when Gregor decided to open the door, his manager saw and ran away because of fear and his mother was just shocked to see him like this. This is all we did in the first chapter.
We had to come up with 10 metaphors that were based on our personality. I came up with “He is a journal. always there for you” and “His thoughts are like champagne, overflowing when popped” in the last 10 minutes of the class. I feel like I am a very selfless person and always there for someone whenever they want to talk about their feelings or whenever they are low as I feel good after helping them. At times when i want to think of a new idea, i need a little bit of a direction and once I’ve gotten it, i come up with a couple of ideas and I feel like this metaphor describes it the best.
The 10 metaphors I came up with are
- He is a journal. always there for you.
- His thoughts are like champagne, overflowing when popped.
- He speaks a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see, kindness.
- He’s full of surprises, just like Pandora’s box.
- He perseveres and is full of grit, just like a river through a mountain.
- His mind was like the earths core, deeper you dig more complex it becomes.
- During the presentation he was very bold, like a knight.
- His life was an unpredictable voyage and only he could decide if he wants to sail or drown.
- His words are like thunder, they strike loudly.
- His life was like a birds nest, slowly and steadily coming together perfectly.
